Our Approach

Safety is of utmost importance at Thornton, which is exactly why safety consciousness is part of our company’s core values. It is our policy to provide an accident-free and comfortable work environment by eliminating recognized hazards from the workplace. Our health and safety program has been developed to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. In order to maintain the safety standards desired by our company, we actively pursue an Accident Prevention Program through all levels of our company, from management to all employees. Health and safety are functional responsibilities of each supervisor: each level of our organization is accountable for safe performance. Compliance with this program, and health and safety rules are taken very seriously. This means that failure to comply is sufficient grounds for disciplinary actions, or even termination. These policies are an integral part of the company’s personnel policies.

Ensuring Safety On All Jobsites

Thornton employees a safety director for all safety requirements. The safety director oversees and monitors all active construction projects to ensure that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Thornton’s safety standards are adhered to, helping to reduce risks for all employees, trade-partners, and clients. The safety director routinely conducts on-site project inspections, and also works with project management and administration staff to assist with training, compliance, and record keeping. All considerations such as maintenance of traffic, proper background checks, and all other construction activities will be coordinated in conjunction with the end user and with our safety manager.

All field employees are required to attend a safety orientation prior to commencing work. Decreasing job risks and providing our employees and trade-partners with a safe working environment ensures good working relations with the owner. Additionally, Thornton Construction holds monthly safety meetings and daily toolbox safety meetings on the job site. Furthermore, all of our project managers, superintendents and foremen have OSHA training.
