Overview
As part of the AOA Perimeter Security Fence and Access Road project, Thornton’s work straddled the boundary between the “landside” portion of Terminal A and its AOA. Thornton installed a 4,270 LF perimeter separation fence for Terminal A in order to allow the AOA’s construction area to become landside. Also installed were the Matrix access control systems and associated security accouterments such us cameras, magnetic locks, and door alarms to meet TSA and MIA requirements for airside/landside boundaries. As a result, construction personnel were allowed to perform daily construction activities without having to pass through the security process at the North Terminal Development Gate.
The project proceeded in three phases: the AOA separation at the apron and all building levels; the construction of a new road to access the landside area; and the parking striping, signage and control point. Work included substantial site improvements, tree relocations, walkways, ramps and irrigation systems. Thornton was required to follow strict protocols for maintaining the integrity of the secured AOA during construction. Terminal A was closed to allow 70% of work to proceed landside, rather than in the AOA, avoiding the need for increased security clearances.
