Dinner Key Marina New Dockmaster Building

Overview

At almost 100 years old, the Dockmaster Building at Dinner Key Marina no longer adequately met the needs of the marina. Thornton Construction was selected to demolition and reconstruct the new marina. The new facility, which serves as the Harbormaster’s Administration Building, is three stories and totals over 11,000 SF. The scope of work also included an inviting open-air courtyard. The building houses the necessary offices and space for the Harbormaster to conduct business, including a welcoming atmosphere for boats that choose to dock at Dinner Key. Additionally, although the project was originally intended to be LEED Silver, it has received a LEED Gold Certification for new construction.

The Dinner Key Marina is located near the historic downtown area of Coconut Grove. It is Florida’s largest wet slip marine facility, with a 582 slip capacity. The facility provides accommodations to transient, long-term, and commercial dockage. Dinner Key is rich in history as it used to serve as the base of operations for Pan American Airway’s famed flying boats, the Clippers. Dinner Key was also a United States Naval Air Station during World War I and World War II, and a United States Coast Guard air station
